#6 Becoming Jane Premier
So yesterday Emma wangled us tickets to the World Premier of Becoming Jane. I've never been to a film premier before so I was really excited. It started about 6:30 and as we walked down the red carpet (yes we got to walk down the red carpet) James McAvoy was signing autographs and Julie Walters was being interviewed by the press. We took our seats in the cinema and waited for about half hour (there was no goody bag which was disappointing). The film was introduced by the producers, the director and screen writer and most of the cast. Unfortunately Anne Hathaway wasn't present as she was filming in Vancouver, but James McAvoy read out a little speech she had written which was nice, they then all took their seats several rows in front of us.
I actually really enjoyed the film, it's a fictionalised version of Jane Austen's life and borrows heavily from her novels, but that's not a bad thing. Anne Hathaway's accent is flawless, she is fast becoming one of my favourite actresses. James McAvoy was heavenly. The last 5 minutes was absolutely dire and almost spoiled the film, I actually forgot where we were an almost made a sarcastic comment. Don't let the ending put you off though it's a good film and I could get use to attending premiers!

#6 James McAvoy
I think it’s probably wrong to admit this, but James McAvoy first came to my attention when he played the faun Mr Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, it’s wrong because it’s a kids film, but right because he isn’t wearing a shirt! He’s been in a glut of British films recently and although I haven’t seen them all, I watched The Last King of Scotland on my flight to Australia and thought it was excellent and this is mainly due to James performances, however there are two very disturbing scenes in the film which turned my stomach, one of them involved James McAvoy’s previously mentioned shirtless chest and meat hooks, I won’t elaborate but I thought it’s best to warn you if you haven’t already seen the film. And of course last night we shared the red carpet and the cinema with him at the Becoming Jane premier which was lovely.

#5 Treats
Yet another theatre visit to document, it feels like all I ever do these days is go to the theatre, still I can’t complain. This time it was Treats a Christopher Hampton play from the 70s, according to the programme it’s a feminist play, but I’m not sure from which school of feminism. Billie Piper is Ann, who while her journalist boyfriend Dave (played by Kris Marshall) is in Iraq, changes the lock and moves dull Patrick in (played by Piper’s real life boyfriend Laurence Fox). On his return Dave is less than happy about this turn of events. It is clear Ann and Dave had an unconventional relationship, he cheated on her and mentally and physically abused her yet the relationship lasted several years, whereas her relationship with the sweet and thoughtful Patrick only lasts weeks. I couldn’t really identify or agree with the character of Ann, there is a shocking turn of events in the second half, that really upset me and my sister yet Ann seemed to take it in her stride. I was surprised at how good the cast were especially as the production has been dogged by rumours of Billie Piper being unable to cope with the demands of 8 performances a week. However I would recommend catching it soon just in case!

#5 Nigel Barker
Or to give him his proper name "Noted Fashion Photograper Nigel Barker"
is just fabulous. A model turn photographer who is no probably most famous for his turn as judge on ANTM and the reason why I want to apply to be a contestant, as despite the fact that he is married to a model, me and my flatmate are convinced that as a perk of his judging job he gets to shag the models - we devote minutes each week to discussing which girl is his "favourite". The best episode of each series by far when Nigel gets behind the camera and photographs the girls, although the episode were Janice Dickinson is also tops. Anyway I guess what I really want to say is Nigel can judge me anytime!

The Oscars
So obviously last night was the Oscar, they are only
shown on an obscure channel in the UK so I haven't been able to see them (sob!) I'm actually really upset about this as Ellen Degeneres was hosting this year and I think she is brilliant, but I got to watch the winners on TV this morning so it will a have to do.I was delighted Helen Mirren won Best Actress, I watched The Queen on one of my many recent plane journeys and I thought it was brilliant. Although I thought it was a shame that Kate Winslet missed out for the 5th time running, but then seeing as how Helen Mirren is 66 and Kate is only in her early 30 she has plenty of time left. And for me Kate won in the dress stakes she looked
divine
It was great to see Reese Witherspoon out and about after her seperation from Ryan last year, her dress was gorgeous, but I wasn't too keen on the straight hair, I think she looks a lot better with shorter/curly.Oh and by the way I've slipped in a picture of George Clooney presenting the Best Supporting Actress Award, because I love him.
